.Net Developer Survey
So I recently switched jobs (again!). And during my time off, I had an interesting conversation with a couple of colleague’s about how ‘internet social’ the average developer is and if that has anything to do with their productivity. Our opinions varied so I thought I would ask for some help. I came up with a survey that captures the essence of our conversation. If you can spare a few seconds, here is the link to where you can take it –> survey.
I’ll post the results in a few days …
Update 3/3/2009: Getting a lot of responses (~400 completed surveys so far) – so thanks everyone. Also, if you don’t feel like answering a question, or if it doesn’t apply, you can skip the question by clicking the next button.
Update 3/5/2009: I have received about 1,000 responses so I have decided to close the survey. Checkout the results here

I can see where you're going with these questions and I'll bet the results will be interesting. A couple of things, though.
The question about whether you consider it unethical to post to a blog while at work is a tricky one. You may have an arrangement with your company that allows this as part of personal development, part of the job or some other reason.
A blog post typically takes a lot more effort and time than a status update for Facebook or a quick tweet. People might feel that the line is drawn based on the amount of time it takes away from work.
The other thing I wasn't sure about is your salary bands - I assume they're in US dollars? I'm in New Zealand and earn less than $50k US ($90k NZ) as a level 3 developer. That might make your results look a little skewed?
A log survey, i've completed. Hope it is useful.
Good luck with your new job!
Developer I
Developer II
Developer III

Looking forward to the results for this one! Posted a link on Twitter :p http://twitter.com/fredrik_k/statuses/1272881610
Couldn't find you on there?
"service unavaible" on survey page
how about putting in an N/A answer in the survey. i had to answer untruthfully for some as i didn't want to disclose!
Done! waiting for the results!
I liked the survey. I think me and you Matt have something in common regarding switching jobs (again)
Hi Matt,
I have to agree with the monkey. There should be something in between no and unethical...
Looking forward seeing the results.
Completed the survey and looking forward to the results too.
Nice survey, expecting overall results.
cool survey - next time, please don't forget those of us who:
1. are the boss/ceo (most likely of a startup)
2. dev+architect+more etc :)
looking forward to the results! :P
Done. The developer1, developer2 question - not sure how meaningful the results are going to be for that one. Either that actually means something in the US or something should have been updated before going live.
Must admit I'm intreagued to find the results :)
